Ingredients:

1 slice bacon
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 onion, chopped
2 cans kidney beans with liquid
1 can or 2 cups beef broth
2 bay leaves
1/2 tsp salt
1/8 tsp ground pepper
1/4 tsp dried basil
Herbs to taste including epazote, savory, a rosemary sprig (optional)

Method:
  1. Fry bacon for a minute, crumble and set aside.
  2. Reheat bacon drippings over medium heat. Saut� garlic and onion until tender.
  3. Blend beans in blender to fine puree and stir into onion mixture.
  4. Blend in crumbled bacon and remaining ingredients, stirring occasionally until soup is hot. Remove and discard bay leaves.
