Ingredients:500
gms black ulavalu
500 gms chicken
2 tsp ginger-garlic paste
5 green chilies
2 tsp chili powder
1 onion, chopped
Few sprigs of curry leaves
1/2 tsp garam masala
Lemon-size ball of tamarind
3-4 tbsp oil
Salt to taste |
Chicken Ulavachaaru

Method:
- Mix ulavalu with 5 cups of water and soak for 2-3 hours. Then place in the pressure
cooker and boil on high flame for 15 minutes. Boil on low flame for 45 minutes.
- Separate the water from the above mixture and boil again until the water thickens. This
is ulavachaaru.
- Heat oil in a pan, fry the chopped onions and green chilies until golden. Then add curry
leaves, ginger-garlic paste, chili powder, salt, chicken pieces and fry for few more
minutes. Cook until the chicken pieces are tender.
- When the chicken pieces are tender, add tamarind pulp, prepared ulavachaaru and cook for
few more minutes. Sprinkle garam masala powder and mix well.
- Serve hot with plain white rice.
