Ingredients:

Toor dal 1 cup
Green chilies 5
Onion 1 small
Tomato 1 large
Garlic 3 flakes
Turmeric powder 1 tsp.
Corianderleaves 1 bunch
Curry leaves few
Oil 2 tbsp.
Salt to taste

Plain Dal

Method:
  1. Pressure-cook the dal with 2 cups of water. The dal should be well cooked. Mash the cooked dal and keep aside.
  2. Crush the garlic. Mince the onion, green chilies, tomato and coriander leaves.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. When they crakle, add curry leaves, minced onions, green chilies, crushed garlic and fry for 2 minutes.
  4. Add tomatoes and turmeric powder, fry for 2 more minutes. Add 2 cups of water and salt. Boil it for 10 minutes.
  5. Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve with plain rice or chapathis.
    Serves: 4 to 6
    Preparation time: 45 minutes
