Ingredients:

1 cup tur dal
2 tbsps oil
1 tsp. mustard seeds
Curry leaves
1 tsp. jeera (cumin) seeds
1 onion
1 big tomato, diced or crushed
1/2 tsp. turmeric
1 tsp. red chili powder
1 lemon size tamarind
Salt to taste
Coriander leaves, chopped

Khatti Masala Dal

Method:
  1. Boil tur dal separately, mash it and keep aside.
  2. Take oil in a kadai, put mustard seeds and jeera seeds. Let mustard seeds splutter. Add curry leaves.
  3. Add onion and fry till golden brown. Add tomatoes, fry till oil separates. Add tamarind and again fry for 2 to 3 minutes.
  4. Add turmeric and red chili powder. Mix boiled and mashed tur daal and water as per thickness required.
  5. Add salt and boil it for 5 minutes. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Serve with papad, rice and pickle.
    Serves: 4 people
