Ingredients:

2 (15 oz) cans cream-style corn
1 (28 oz) can vegetarian baked beans
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup thinly sliced celery
1 cup vegetable broth
1/2 tsp thyme
1 bay leaf
1/4 tsp pepper

Corn & Bean Chowder

A Western tasty and delicious soup dish made with corn, baked beans, onion, broth and pepper.

Method:
  1. Combine all ingredients in a large saucepan; bring to a boil.
  2. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer for 30 minutes. Remove bay leaf before serving.
    Makes 4 servings.
    Preparation time: 30 minutes

A healthy balanced diet isn't just about eating the right kind of food. The way that you buy, store, prepare and cook your food, and even the pots, pans and equipment you use, all have a significant impact on the nutritional value of your meals. To limit the consumption of fats in your regular diet, here are some handy tips:
  • Use non-stick cookware, as they require less oil to cook food.
  • Bake, steam or sauté instead of shallow frying or deep frying foods.

Cooking For Health: Honey - Nutritive to the Core
Storing Honey:
Store in a covered container in a dry place at room temperature. If exposed to the air, honey tends to lose its flavor and absorb moisture. Honey kept some time tends to become darker and stronger, but will still be usable. It may also crystallize if kept at too cool a temperature. However, this does not affect the quality of the honey. In fact, crystallization will occur more readily in a pure and better quality honey. Sometimes a white layer will form on top of crystallized honey as tiny air bubbles are squeezed onto the surface. This does not mean the honey is spoiled. Pure, natural raw honey will never spoil and crystallization can easily be remedied by placing the container in warm water until the crystals disappear.

Cooking:

Grind cardamom along with skins to make powder. Pass through sieve. While getting more quantity and becoming economical the flavor is also enhanced. Mix the residue in tea leaves or tea masala for beautifully aromatic tea.
Health:
Healthy spread: For a low fat and relatively low sodium spread, mix horseradish with mustard and use it in place of mayo on sandwiches. It provides quite a kick, so a little goes a long way!
