5 Ways To Healthier Cooking
Plan less meat, more vegetables, fruits, and grains:
Change the emphasis of your menus, and make meat just one part of the meal instead of the
centerpiece. When you cook a steak, for example, serve potato, one or two vegetables,
salad, and bread. Keep the servings of meat small--about 4 ounces per person. This reduces
your intake of saturated fat and cholesterol and increases intake of vitamins and fiber.Cooking For Health: Fish - Health Benefits
Composition:
- Calories: The calorie value of the edible portion
depends on its fat content and thus on season.
- Fats: Fish is rich in poly unsaturated fatty acids
called omege-3s: mainly, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) [in salt water fish], and
docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Like aspirin, these omega-3s make platelets in the blood less
likely to stick together and may reduce inflammatory process in blood vessels. Eating fish
is therefore claimed to decrease heart disease.

Tip of the week
Cooking:
Always rinse greasy vessels in hot water before hand washing or putting in
a dishwasher. They come out cleaner and leave dishes grime less.
Health:
Did you know that about 80% of all foot problems can be attributed to
poorly fitted shoes? A few buying tips: Shop for shoes in the middle of the day, as your
feet tend to swell most at this time. Be sure that you have about 1/2 inch of space
between the end of your foot and the tip of the shoe. Always have both feet measured, as
it is common for feet to vary in size.
